Bantwal, Aug 3: Reshma Shetty (22), wife of Rajesh Shetty (24), who was residing in a rented house at Golikatte in Kanyana village near Vittal in the taluk, committed suicide by making a noose out of the veil of her Churidar, and hanging from the wooden beam supporting the roof on the morning of Monday August 1. It is said that Reshma was into the fourth month of her pregnancy.

Reshma, daughter of Dayanand Shetty from Kodange in Kudtamugeru, had married Rajesh, a native of Kanyana, about seven months back. It was a love marriage, and both the families had given their consent for the same. Rajesh, a JCB operator, used to stay in a rented house with his mother, who worked as a housemaid in a neighbouring house, and wife.

Locals said Rajesh got drunk frequently and raised a din at his home almost every day. It is learnt that Reshma’s brother told the police that he suspected it to be a case of murder, as his sister was strong-willed. A case was registered in Vittal police station, and investigation has been taken up.
