Mangalore, Aug 3: Under the aegis of the youth welfare committee, YCS, and ICYM, ‘Yuva Mahotsav–2011’, a one-day programme for the youth of St Francis Xavier parish, Bejai, was held at their parish auditorium on Sunday July 31. It was held to mark the International Youth Year.

Bejai parish priest Fr Victor Machado, assistant parish priest Fr Anil Roshan, parish council vice-president Augustine Rodrigues, secretary Shalet Patrao, YCS animator Sr Leena and parish ICYM unit president Melrin Mascarenhas inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his inaugural address Fr Machado said, “The purpose of such a programme was to help the youth in their personality development.”  He informed that they did not aim at only intellectual development, but for overall development of an individual. He encouraged the youth to spread the light from their lives to others. Expressing regret over the lack of value in the society these days, Fr Machado called upon the youth to live a life filled with values.

The inaugural function was followed by a session conducted by Dr Savita Pereira, lecturer at SDM College, with specialization in HRD.  She spoke of the association between the psyche, social, and spiritual life of an individual.  During the session, she enlightened the youth by conducting various activities. YCS members invoked the prayers.  Melrin Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering.

Youth are the present of the church. As Pope Benedict xvi rightly said that without the young face of the youth the church will be disfigured.Youth are the young face of the church. Let the youth take active part in the church and in the society.
