Udupi, Aug 4: As the old adage goes ‘birth is accidental, but death is certain,’ there are a few individuals who wish to serve humanity even after passing away from this world.  They are happy to contribute their hard earned income to the neediest during their life span.

A couple with these ideals signed an agreement to donate their body after their death to KMC anatomy department at Manipal through Rotary Club of Shirva.  The papers were handed over to Professor Dr Anthony, head of anatomy department of KMC.

Alfred Vincent Monis, son of retired LIC development officer late B Monis and Bantakal Durgaparameshwari School retired teacher late Gracy Barboza (Mary teacher), and his wife Joyce Veena D’Souza, daughter of late Michael D’Souza and the Gracy D’Souza handed over the papers with consent and presence of their children Prem Monis (B Com student) and Grashel Andrin Monis (PUC student).

Shirva Rotary Club senior member Dr K R Venkatakrishna, district former assistant governor B Pundalik Marate, Rotary zone 2 assistant governor K R Patkar, secretary Leo Noronha, past president Dr Gururaj, and KMC assistant director Jaivittal were present on the occasion.

Anatomy department chief Dr Anthony said that it’s a significant contribution to the medical students and indeed great charity.  “The number of people donating their body after death is increasing in developed nations and general awareness in this regard by social welfare organizations in India would be beneficial,” added Dr Anthony.

“Alfred Vincent and Joyce Monis have indeed set an example for others to follow,” he added.
Alfred Vincent said that he was inspired by Sandalwood actor Lokesh as he was deeply moved by the indifferent treatment of poor and rich in funeral ceremonies.
