Mangalore, Aug 6: Heavy rain continued to pour in coastal Karnataka on Friday August 5. As a result, a house belonging to Umanath Shetty in Yekkur Kalyaru in Bantwal Kolnad collapsed. A fisherman went missing in Kota Padukere in Udupi district. A youth from Madikeri died after a protective call crashed on his house.

While all other taluks in the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada reported heavy rainfall, Kundapur taluk received less rainfall in comparison. The meteorological department has renewed its earlier warning of heavy rains during the next two days.

Agumbe in Shimoga district received the highest rainfall of 15 cms. The average rainfall in the coast hovered around seven cms. Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Kodagu district on Saturday because of heavy rains.

Udupi: Incessant Rains Damage Houses Along Padukare Shore

The incessant rains that have been lashing the district since the past few days, caused widespread damage to public property on Friday August 5.

Houses located on the Padukare shore along the Arabian Sea were damaged due rains and heavy gales. The tile house owned by Nandu Marakala was damaged and the loss was estimated to be about Rs 50,000.  Nandu’s wife Ninnu Marakalti was injured after a tile fell on her head.
The roof tiles of the house owned by Buddu Poojarti were blown away causing a loss of nearly Rs 10,000.  The local youth volunteered to help her.

TP member Raghavendra Kanchan, Kotatattu gram panchayat president Raghu Tingalaya, Mogaveer Youth Association Kota unit president Ramesh V Kundar, secretary Suresh, panchayat member Prabhakar Kanchan, and village accountant Madhav Kottari paid a visit to the household families.
