Mangalore, Aug 8: Incessant rains have paralysed activities at various places across the twin districts in the form of submerged bridges, unmotorable roads, worsened sea erosion, crashed walls, etc.
Kumaradhara Bridge at the entry point to Subrahmanya now faces the risk of getting submerged. The low-level Hosmutt Bridge is already under water, forcing the vehicles to take a detour via Ichilampady. A number of trees fell on the power lines, affecting power supply. Roads have suffered widespread damages due to rains, at many places. A number of walls of houses and roofs also were damaged. An Anganwadi building at Bakimar in Sabngabettu, Punjalakatte, Beltangady taluk, suffered damaged due to a fallen tree.
After a hillock suffered landslide at Uruvalu village in Beltangady taluk, many areca nut trees fell to the ground, and water from the drain flooded the plantation, which is owned by Isubu Beary. A senior citizen living in a house in Golijora within Kinnigoli gram panchayat, suffered injuries after her house crashed along with its pillars due to rains on Sunday morning. The other occupants of the house escaped with minor injuries. The family was shifted to a make shift tent provided by the locals. A well belonging to C C Thomas at Konalu, Golitottu village near Nelyady caved in due to heavy rains.
Sea erosion has worsened at Kody near Kundapur. The sea water has touched the road. The people living across the road have been asked to exercise caution in view of imminent danger posed by surging sea.
The district administration of Kodagu has declared two more days of holiday for all the schools and colleges in that district because of heavy rains and flood-like situation at various places.
Linganamakki dam crossed the level of 1,800 feet because of increased inflow on account of heavy rain in the catchments. Agumbe registered 14 cms of rain, while the coastal region got six to seven cms of rain on an average. The meteorological department has predicted good rains during the period till Tuesday morning.
