Udupi, Aug 25: The department of public health dentistry at Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Manipal, marked a significant milestone, with the inauguration of their state-of-the-art Mobile Dental Clinic. Recognizing the challenges faced by remote communities in accessing oral healthcare services due to geographical distances and financial constraints, the new Mobile Dental Clinic has been designed to bridge this gap effectively. The initiative aims to extend oral care to underserved areas in Udupi district and its surrounding regions. The newly unveiled Mobile Dental Clinic boasts advanced features, including two fully equipped dental chairs within the treatment area, a spacious waiting area that also doubles as passenger seating, a television for entertainment, and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. The vehicle's design is tailored to navigate narrow roads in rural communities and coastal regions, ensuring accessibility to even the most remote areas.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE, highlighted the imperative need for promoting oral health and expanding healthcare access through initiatives like the Mobile Dental Clinic. He encouraged the optimal utilization of this vehicle to extend oral care services to the masses, particularly in areas that face limited access to dental facilities.

Dr Monica C Solomon, dean of MCODS, Manipal, took the stage to share insights into the outreach programs conducted by the department of public health dentistry in the Udupi district. She also took the opportunity to recognize the winners of the public health dentistry quiz competition, held in collaboration with the Indian Association of Public Health.

Dr Ramprasad V P, professor and head of the department of public health dentistry welcomed the esteemed guests. He shed light on the Mobile Dental Clinic's purpose and future, emphasizing its potential impact on improving oral healthcare accessibility.

The inauguration of the new Mobile Dental Clinic marks a significant step towards addressing oral healthcare disparities and fostering healthier smiles in remote communities. The department of public health dentistry at MCODS, Manipal, reaffirms its commitment to extending quality oral care services to all, irrespective of their geographical location. The inauguration ceremony was graced by L. Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, the vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal; Col Prakash Chandra, director of general services; Dr Monica C Solomon, dean of MCODS, Manipal; Dr Shashi Rashmi Acharya, associate dean of MCODS; heads of various departments; faculty members; postgraduate students were present.
