Udupi: Free bone mineral density camp at Dr TMA Pai Hospital on Aug 29

Media Release

Udupi, Aug 27: “Osteoporosis is a silent condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile leading to fractures. The disease occurs when either the body fails to form new bones or there is increased destruction of the old bones. This disease is most common in postmenopausal women, but it remains largely undiagnosed due to a lack of information about the condition,” said Dr Rajaram Pai, head, department of orthopedics, Dr TMA Pai Hospital.

It can be diagnosed by a non-invasive technique called bone mineral density and subsequently, advice regarding management for the same is given. Ladies, especially those above the age of 50 are required to undergo the BMD Test to evaluate the density of their bones.

Dr. Shashikiran Umakanth, medical superintendent, Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi said that in this regard there will be a free bone mineral density camp at the department of orthopaedics, Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi on Tuesday August 29 from 9 am to 3 pm. Ideal candidates are those above 40 years of age and they can get registered to this camp. Only 100 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis will undergo check-up. For registration and more details, contact: 0820-2526501 Extn – 2164.
