Bantwal, Aug 28: “A Hindu awareness protest gathering will be held at Manchi Gopalakrishna Temple premises on September 3 condemning the insult meted out to freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar,” informed VHP and Bajrang Dal Bantwal unit.
VHP Bantwal unit president, advocate Prasad Kumar Rai Manchi said that students of a government school at Manchi had shouted slogans for Veer Savarkar during the Independence Day celebrations of India.
“An individual who is not connected to the school had threatened the school headmistress in this connection and forced her to apologise while posted its video in social media. The incident is condemnable and police should take action against him,” he urged.
“Savarkar had completely indulged in the freedom movement and underwent the punishment at Kaala Paani twice. Therefore derogatory comments against him or his family are not tolerable,” he said.
“A rally will be held prior to the protests at 3 pm from Kukkaje Siddivinayaka Temple to the venue of the protests. Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, president of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha will deliver the keynote address in the programme at Manchi Gopalakrishna Temple premises at 4 pm.
VHP regional co-secretary Sharan Pumpwell and VHP Puttur district president Dr Krishna Prasanna will take part as guests. Retired soldier Ramesh Rao Noojippady will preside over the protests,” he said.
VHP, Bhajrang Dal district convener Bharath Kumdelu said that Savarkar had been insulted at Manchi to make India a Muslim nation.
“The state government with wrong motive intends to remove the lesson on Savarkar from school textbooks. It cannot be tolerated. The organisation will protest against it during the gathering at Manchi,” he said.
Bajrang Dal Vitla unit president Chetan, VHP district vice-president K Krishnappa, Manchi unit president Ramesh Rao Pathumudi and others were present.
