Mangaluru, Sep 5: "Teachers give us knowledge. They show us the right path for our future. According to our culture, teachers are more important than God,” said MLA Vedavyas Kamath.

He was speaking during Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishna's Birth Anniversary and Teacher's Day organized by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, block education office, Mangaluru North Teacher's Day Committee and Shikshakara Kalyana Nidhi at Town Hall here on Tuesday September 5.

“A guru (teacher) plays a vital role in a student's life. Our undivided districts’ teachers contributed a lot to the growth of students in education. Because of that, they have succeeded, added Kamath.

The retired teachers of various schools were felicitated.

MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Prof Balakrishna Shetty and others were present.

James Cutihno welcomed the gathering.
