Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Thursday closed 79 points lower.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 17,056.61 points, closed at 17,050.58 points, 79.93 points or 0.47 percent down compared to its previous close at 17,130.51 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also edged lower at 5,128 points, down 0.64 percent.
Broader markets nudged up. The BSE midcap index was closed 0.19 percent down and the BSE smallcap index was ended 0.26 percent lower.
The market breadth at the BSE was mixed with 1,319 stocks moving up, compared to 1,471 on the decline and 140 remaining unchanged.
