Bengaluru, Sep 12: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also KPCC President, made it clear that Planning and Statistics Minister Dr D Sudhakar need not resign as he has been implicated in a ‘false case’.

Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru on Tuesday, he claimed that the case filed against the minister was of a civil nature pertaining to verbal threats and it is not a case in accordance with the Prevention of Civil Rights (PCR) Act, which in common parlance is anti-untouchability law pertaining to abuses using the caste.

“I have personally obtained all details and have also obtained information from the officials. It is evident it is clearly a false case and therefore, there is no need for resignation,’’ he asserted.

Shivakumar said as State Congress President he has obtained complete details about the case and have discussed with the officials.

“Sudhakar has purchased lands after obtaining all necessary permissi0ns. During the elections some vested interests have fenced the land and now the minister has tried to secure the land purchased by him,’’ he said pointing out that some people belonging to SC community have filed a case under PCR Act and a case has been registered.

"When the case was registered against the minister, I know that Dr Sudhakar was in Chitradurga and therefore it is evident that it is false case as he was not present at the spot. There is no question of invoking PCR Act provisions,’’ he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister accused the BJP leaders of making unnecessary political capital out of the incident and claimed that just because a case under PCR Act has been filed, there is no need for resignation. “Tomorrow, my opponents can file a case against me also and it does not mean that I will have to resign,’’ he said asking BJP that they should stop day-dreaming about forcing Sudhakar to resign.
