Mangaluru: Fr Mathew Vas Memorial Inter-Parish Tournament to be held on Oct 22

Mangaluru, Sep 14: Fr Mathew Vas, the founder trustee of Community Empowerment Trust Mangaluru, whose dedication and selfless service to the society left an indelible mark on the community and congregation of Mangaluru, a collaborative effort between Community Empowerment Trust (R) Mangalore, Christian Sports Association Mangaluru, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), and Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh (R) is set to host the Fr Mathew Vas Memorial Inter-Parish Tournament. This event aims to celebrate his legacy and promote community unity through sports.

The tournament will feature competitive inter-parish football (Men) and throwball (Women) matches and will take place on October 22 at the St. Aloysius PU College Grounds.

As part of the event, a special ceremony will be held to felicitate Catholic athletes of Mangaluru and Udupi diocese who have demonstrated exceptional talent by winning medals at the state and national levels. The submission of names of deserving athletes who achieved these milestones between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, cane be done to Community Empowerment Trust, Milagres, Mangaluru, by October 15. Detailed tournament information and regulations have been disseminated to the churches within the Mangalore and Udupi Diocese. The participating denominations are requested to register their teams' names by October 15.

The tournament winners will be rewarded generously, with cash prizes as follows: First Place: Rs 25,000 each, Second Place: Rs 15,000 each, and Third Place: Rs 7,500 each. Additionally, all winning denominations will receive a commemorative plaque in recognition of their outstanding performance.

This event promises to be a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, community spirit, and the enduring legacy of Fr Mathew Vas.
