Mangaluru, Sep 15: Scores of devotees had a holy dip in the historic Someshwara, Somanath temple at Ullal taluk on the auspicious Friday, Shravana new moon day and became blessed.

The holy dip is important out of five special rituals that are being performed in the temple. Thousands of devotees arrive at the beautiful Someshwara sea shore on the Shravana new moon day and have a holy dip. There is a belief that all the sins of a person will be forgiven if one has a dip at the temple pond and then in the sea. As per the scientific view too, skin diseases are cured if one has bath in the pond and then in the salt water of the sea.

Devotees offer areca nuts and pan before the dip in the sea. They offer special prayers to Somanatha deity and become blessed.
