Madikeri, Sep 16: A senior doctor and two other staff were caught on camera while accepting a bribe at the time of conducting post-mortem.

MLA A S Ponnanna has already issued the suspension of the doctor involved in these activities.

Referring to the above incident, DHO Dr Satish Kumar said, “A notice has been already sent to the accused doctor and the hospital’s administrative medical officer. After the preliminary investigation, necessary actions will be taken against the accused.”

Yashwanth, a resident of Gonikoppal said, “Our friend died by suicide. After the police case was filed, a post-mortem was instructed. We had to take his body from Gonikoppal to Gundlupet. But the hospital administration refused to conduct the post-mortem on the same day and asked us to come the next day.

“When we spoke to senior specialist Dr Srinivas Murthy and requested to conduct the post-mortem the same day, he demanded a bribe of Rs 3000,” he said.

Meanwhie, his friends shot a video of a doctor demanding the bribe. When Yashwanth and his friends came forward to pay him Rs 2000, the doctor demanded more and finally they were asked to pay Rs 3000 for conducting the post mortem.

“Along with this, we also paid Rs 500 each to two other staff of the hospital for packing up the body. But those two workers demanded higher and asked them to pay Rs 1000 each,” he said.

However, Yashwanth’s friends shot the entire video and shared it as evidence.
