Bantwal, Aug 20: Congress leader, social worker, and former president of the local taluk panchayat, Bolantoor Chandrahasa Shetty, was operated upon in the afternoon of Friday August 19. A team of doctors led by neurologist, Dr C R Ballal, conducted the surgery. It may be recalled that Shetty had tried to commit suicide by firing at his own head.

It is learnt that the surgery, which began at 3 pm, went on till 9 pm. It is gathered that the surgery was aimed at removing blood clots from Shetty’s head. Family sources said his condition remained stable.

The 48-hour period the doctors had stipulated for conducting surgery expired on Friday afternoon. Shetty, who was on ventilator, continued to be in coma. The doctors have clarified that the surgery  was aimed at just remoing the blood clot, and that the bullet can be removed only after Shetty recovers.

A mass prayer for Shetty's early recovery has been organized by the Lions Club office bearers and members at Sri Annapoorneshwarri Temple in B C Road at 7.30 pm on Saturday. This temple was renovated under the leadership of Shetty, who happens to be a former president of Lions Club.
