London, Aug 20 (IANS): The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is shelling out some extra money to upgrade the security of the Indian team following recent riots which have hit England's major cities.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the Indian team has been provided with "30 undercover policemen within their hotels, a dozen uniformed officers outside, and two unmarked cars to escort the team bus."
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked the ECB for assurances over the safety of its players before the third Test following disturbances in Birmingham.
The security of the England team, however, has not been upgraded.
"Providing the extra security for the remainder of the tour, which includes one T20 match and five one-day internationals, is seen as a means of calming those fears," the daily reported.
