Puttur, Oct 18: Former chairman of the Sri Vishnumurthy Temple has surrendered the missing ornaments of the temple and himself to the police.

During the Brahmakalashotsava celebrations held last December at the Perne's Kalenja-Dentadka Sri Vishnumurthy Temple, a few ornaments were offered to the deity that had gone missing and a complaint was filed with the police.

The temple administrative authorities conducted a review meeting pertaining to the issue on Sunday and that is when Ramadas Rai, a devotee, raised a query it came to light that the jewels that he had offered had gone missing.

Former secretary of the temple administration board Gopal Shetty N filed a complaint with the Uppinangady police. The police registered a case and began investigating the matter. Immediately, on Tuesday, October 17, former chairman of the temple board Rohitaksha Banabettu presented himself in the police station and said he had misused his position as a chairman of the temple board and had got the gold pledged in a private gold finance company in exchange for money. Banabettu visited the police station with the ornaments after making a settlement with the gold finance company.

The police took the accused into custody and conducted a mahajir in the temple.

Meanwhile, Ramadas Rai has filed a complaint with the police stating that the necklace that he had offered to the temple has not been found and the police are investigating.
