New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS) After Rajya Sabha members from Assam raised apprehensions of land from the state being given to Bangladesh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday said national interest has not been compromised during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the neighbouring country.

Making a brief statement after Birendra Prasad Baishya of the Asom Gana Parishad raised the issue, the home minister said that a detailed statement on the issue will be made by the government Thursday.

"Government has answered questions in parliament on issue of un-demarcated boundaries, these problems have been with us for many years... these problems are being resolved," Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha.

"On prime minister's return, government will make a statement... no interest of India has been sacrificed," he said.

Raising the issue, Baishya alleged that Indian land from Assam was being given to Bangladesh.

"Yesterday (Tuesday), there was an agreement between India and Bangladesh government... India is giving Assam land to Bangladesh," the member said.

"We want there should be relation but not at the cost of people of Assam," he said.

Baishya was joined by members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with party leader S.S. Ahluwalia demanding a statement from Manmohan Singh on the issue.

Manmohan Singh is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh, and is returning home Wednesday night.
