Udupi: Police recover 18 stolen mobile phones through CEIR portal

Udupi, Dec 16: Manipal police have successfully retrieved 18 mobile phones reported as lost by complainants within the jurisdiction of their police station since January 2023. Utilizing the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, the police identified and recovered these phones with a combined value of Rs 3.5 lac.

On December 16, Diyanjali from Eshwara Nagar filed a complaint regarding the theft of her OnePlus 7 and her friend's Redmi Note 10 Pro Max mobile phones on November 5 and November 27, respectively. The OnePlus 7 was valued at Rs 15,000, and the Redmi at Rs 20,000. Following the complaint, the police initiated an investigation.

The stolen phones were registered on the CEIR portal, revealing that a person named Deekshit (27), son of Yadava from Aroor village, was using them. Deekshit was apprehended, and six stolen mobile phones were recovered from him, originating from various locations. He was subsequently presented in court.

The Manipal police team, led by Inspector Devaraja, included SI Raghavendra C, Akshaya Kumari, ASI Vivekananda B, Abdul Razak, Chennesh, Manjunatha, Suresh, and Shubha.

ASP Siddalingappa T facilitated the return of the 18 recovered phones to their rightful owners at the Manipal police station.

In a media statement, superintendent of police Dr Arun Kumar emphasized the importance of reporting lost mobile phones on the CEIR portal. He urged the public to utilize this platform, making it easier for the police to trace lost phones and prevent their misuse.
