Srinivasan to Take Over as BCCI President

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS): The Supreme Court Friday cleared the decks for N. Srinivasan to take over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president later this month.

The court was told by BCCI counsel that his elevation would be subject to the outcome of a petition challenging his election.

Justice Aftab Alam and Justice R.M. Lodha said this while hearing an application by former BCCI president A.C. Muthiah.

The application contended that Srinivasan's position as the head of the cricketing body was untenable on account of his company India Cement owning the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise of Chennai Super Kings.

Declining to restrain Srinivasan from assuming the office of BCCI president, the court said if they do so, they would be left with nothing to decide in the main petition.

Muthiah's petition challenging Srinivasan's presence as an office bearer of the BCCI has been referred to a larger bench following a split verdict by a bench of Justice J.N. Panchal and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra.
