Mangalore, Sep 14: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the development of the AB Shetty Circle at Pandeshwar here was held on Wednesday September 14. The work is being sponsored by Vijaya Bank.
The foundation stone was laid by Dr N S Channappa Gowda, deputy commissioner in the presence B Ibrahim (former MP), director of Vijaya Bank and Sudhakar Shetty M, deputy general Manager, Vijaya Bank, regional office, Mangalore.

Dr Channappa Gowda appreciated the initiative taken by Vijaya Bank in this regard and expressed his desire that such initiatives continue in the days to come in various other socially-relevant forms also.
B Ibrahim recollected the yeoman services rendered by the late Sundaram Shetty in bringing Vijaya Bank to this stature, including providing employment to thousands of people.
Attavara Balakrishna Shetty is the founder chairman of Vijaya Bank. Founded by Agriculturists of South Kanara District, it started functioning on October 23, 1931 on Vijaya Dashami Day, and hence the name.
As part of corporate social responsibility, Bank has taken up beautification programme of the circle named after Bank’s founder chairman Attavara Balakrishna Shetty at a cost of Rs 27 lac for the outer circle and Rs 13.50 lac for the inner circle.
Naren Jain is the architect and M/s RJ Constructions is the contractor for the project.
