M'lore: Motorists Protest Against Deplorable State of Kudumboor-Jokatte–Porkody Road

The motorists staged a protest by voluntarily not driving on the Kudumboor–Jokatte–Porkody Road that links Baikampady industrial area, urging the district administration to repair the stretch of road that lies in a deplorable state, from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm on Wednesday September 14.
 
Ivan D’Souza, president, Dakshina Kannada Bus Employees’ Association, led the protest rally held from Kudumboor to Porkody.
 


Residents living along Kudumboor–Jokatte–Porkody alleged that the one kilometre stretch of road near Kudumboor to railway gate and two kilometres of Jokatte – Porkody is in a deplorable condition.  The heavy trucks that transport machineries and building materials to the project site are responsible for deplorable roads.  The locals allege that despite the issue being brought to the notice of people’s representatives, no actions were taken by them so far.
 
Addressing the protesters, Ivan D’Souza said that aggravated protests will be held if there is further delay in undertaking urgent repairs.
 
Twenty city buses usually ply on this route cancelled their services for a day and heavy trucks of MRPL did not venture onto the road on Wednesday.
 
Panamboor circle inspector Valentine D’Souza contacted the officers of MRPL and their sub contractors, who agreed to repair the road at the earliest.  The officials of public works department also held a survey of the damaged road.
 
Panamboor ACP Puttamadayya and sub inspector Kirti Kumar provided security along with police personnel.
 
Union leaders Krishna D Anchan, Riyaz Katipalla, Aziz, Ravi Kukyan, Appu Swamy, Sunil Shetty, Sukesh, and representatives of various social welfare and voluntary organizations were present on the occasion.
