Mangalore, Sep 15: The entire Karnataka coastline is getting incessant downpour since the last two days, barring some interval on Wednesday September 14 afternoon. Continued rains have dampened the spirits of the general public, as their movement has been crippled, as also the farmers, who fear facing losses.

All the taluks in the twin-districts received good rains beginning at 4 pm and all through the night on Wednesday. Rainfall also was continuous on Wednesday morning. Rain and wind resulted in collapse of a house owned by Kammaje Ratnakar Pai in Mennabettu gram panchayat near Kinnigoli, even destroying various goods stored inside the house, and thus inflicting a loss of around two lac rupees on him. Another house belonging to Piligudde Vishwanath within Kokkada gram panchayat in Beltangady taluk too crashed to the ground. Loss in this incident has been put at Rs 50,000. Houses owned by Abu in Mudoor gram panchayat and Kushta Naik in Kaltodu village in Kundapur taluk suffered partial damages.

Kundapur recorded ten cm of rain, the highest in the state. All other places in the coast registered between six and eight cm of rainfall. Cyclonic conditions have paralyzed fishing activity, and deep sea fishing boats were found anchored at their bases. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains, quantum of which might reach 65 mm, during the next two days.
