Udupi, Jan 21: In an unfortunate incident, a young girl from Ultoor was defrauded of Rs 6.16 lac by online scammers posing as cryptocurrency investment advisors promising substantial returns.

The scammers initially contacted the victim through WhatsApp, persuading her to invest money in cryptocurrency with the promise of lucrative returns. Subsequently, they sent a link to the Telegram app. Believing the fraudulent scheme, the young girl transferred Rs 6.16 lac to various bank accounts and UPI IDs between January 13 and 19 in multiple transactions. Unfortunately, she neither received any returns nor had the invested amount refunded.

Most of these fraudsters are based in Noida, Siliguri, Delhi, Kolkatta. There are many people and organizations like Pierogi / Scammers payback, Triology Media, Jim Browning and so on hacking the computers of these scammers by reverse connections and making the life of scammers miserable. Though they give enough evidence to Indian police to arrest them...rarely they are raided, and many arrested come out by bribing and their scamming business continues. Several of these Indian accent scammers prey upon elderly and aged, no so tech savvy from Europe and West. These scammers pose as Amazon, Geek Squad, Microsoft refund agents or US Federal police and so on. If people are willing to get fooled....there are enough to fool them.
