Udupi, Sep 16: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt clarified that misleading notion being created about him by a press release issued by Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti was ill-founded. He said that the press release mentioned above seems to spread the opinion that the thermal power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd was set up because of the efforts of the Swamniji and the people of the district.

“I have always taken the stand that industries including thermal power plant that are hazardous to the environment, should not be set up in the district without going into the pros and cons, and without getting opinion of the people. The health hazards and environmental pollution being created by the plant are being experienced by the people of the region now. Hence, the said Samiti has been requested not to issue statements which create wrong opinions about my role in the issue,” the Swamiji said in a press statement issued on Thursday September 15.

The Swamiji began his north India pilgrimage on Thursday. He will be visiting Haridwar, Badrinath, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gaya etc. During the tour, he will take part in the valedictory function of the work, ‘Sarvamoola’ being held at Badrinath on September 19. The pilgrimage will culminate at Puri on September 27. About a thousand devotees have accompanied the Swamiji in his pilgrimage.
