Bangalore: Onus will be on DCs for Quality of Asare Houses, says Somanna

Bangalore, Sep 16: Responding to complaints of inferior quality of houses built under the Asare programme for rehabilitation of the 2009 flood victims in Gadag district, Housing Minister V Somanna on Friday said the Deputy Commissioner of each district will be held responsible for assuring construction quality of houses built under the Government’s Asare programme.

Work on construction of 39,800 houses had already been completed against the target of 57,666 houses, he said.

However, following complaints of inferior quality works at Kundagol in Gadag district, the Deputy Commissioner has been asked to conduct a probe and submit a report.

Deputy Commissioner in each district has been made accountable for maintaining the quality work of each house, Somanna said.

The Minister said works on 52,369 Asare houses in north Karnataka districts would be completed next month end.

Houses have been built under the Asare programme for the benefit of families whose houses and properties were destroyed in 2009 floods.

The Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation would grant subsidy of Rs. 3,000 for construction of a latrine in each house built under the Asare programme, he said.

The Dasara festival celebrations of Rambapuri Jagadguru of Balehonnur would be held for 10 days from September 28 at a playground of Sri Rama Mandir at Rajajinagar in Bangalore.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Union Ministers S M Krishna, Mallikarjun Kharge, M Veerappa Moily and K H Muniyappa would participate in the celebrations, Somanna said.
