Mangalore, Sep 19: The body of a fishermen working for the ill-fated boat, ‘Ocean Fisheries – 2’, which sank near the estuary while waiting to return to its base at Bunder, which was retrieved by the Indian Coast Guard personnel about 40 nautical miles off the local port, has been identified as that of Abdul Rahiman (31) from Panjimogeru here.
The body, found in deep sea in a decomposed condition, was identified with the help of identity marks by the family members of Rahiman. The brothers of Rahiman identified the body based on the scar of old wounds found in his legs and hands, mark made by the religious circumcision on the body, and also the fact that out of the six persons who went missing, Rahiman was the only one with fair complexion.
The body was handed over after post mortem at Wenlock Hospital, and funeral procedures were conducted at a mosque. Abdul Rahiman was the seventh among 12 children of Abdul Khader and Amina, residing near Panjimogeru mosque. He had studied up to fifth standard, and had started working in the district after brief stints at Mumbai and Gulf countries. He had worked for different boats during the last 18 months.
He is survived by wife, Mumtaz, sons, Rashiq (7), and Mohammed Rafiq. The loss of Abdul Rahiman, who was the source of major support for the family, has come as a shock.
