Puttur, Sep 21: Sundara Murthy, a native of Tamil Nadu and resident of Mandekara in Aittoor village near Kadaba, killed his wife and then tried to end his own life. The incident occurred at the residential quarters of Karnataka Forest Development Corporation at Mandekara on Tuesday September 20.

The said residential quarters is allotted to Devaki, mother of Parameshwari (25). Devaki is a confirmed employee of the corporation and works in its rubber plantation. Parameshwari stayed with her parents as also her husband, Sundara Murthy (32) and a four year-old son, Prajwal. Parameshwari’s father works in a rubber plantation in B C Road, but Sundara Murthy did not opt to work and used to spend his time at home.

Parameshwari, during her work at the rubber plantation in the capacity of tapping worker, returned home for breakfast on Tuesday. Perhaps a quarrel broke out between her and her husband on some issue. Sundara Murthy hit Parameshwari in the back of her head, neck and shoulder, with a sharp weapon. Sundara Murthy told the neighbours later that he had tried to slit his throat, while the injury suffered to his private parts were caused by his wife. He is being treated at the government Wenlock Hospital Mangalore.

Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police (SP), Labhu Ram, additional SP, Prabhakar, and  Puttur rural circle inspector, H Y Jagadish, visited the spot and directed investigators.

A case was registered in Kadaba police station. Investigation is on.
