Bantwal, Sep 21: A group of miscreants set fire to the car of a retired officer of the revenue department on the night of Monday September 19. Personal enmity is believed to be the motive behind the incident.

The miscreants poured kerosene on the Maruti Alto car owned by retired deputy Tahsildar Raghupati Shastry and parked on the porch of his house and set it ablaze.

The family members of Shastry, who were awakened by the burning of tyres, extinguished the fire by pouring water and soil.  The fire threatened to spread to the house and the efforts of the family members in extinguishing the fire saved major damage to the house.

Shastry lodged a complaint with Punjalkatte police against six persons who he suspected of setting his car on fire.

Locals Timmappa Rai, Gopalakrishna Chowta, Sudarshan, Suraj Patel, Gopal Shetty, Vittal Shetty, and Chandrashekar were believed to be involved in this incident.
