Kasargod, Sep 21: The policemen, who arrested Kamal Ummer alias Kamal Haji (42), P P Pradeepan (42) and M P Ashish (35), and recovered counterfeit currency notes in the denomination of Rs 1000 with a total face value of ten lac  rupees on September 18, said that these notes had been brought from Dubai and transported by road from Mangalore airport.

A police team lead by Taliparamba circle inspector of police, K E Premachandran, also raided the residence of a resident of Chemnad here, and recovered cash amounting to Rs 4,80,000. The sources said that this man is a link in the fake currency racket, and that he had kept this amount ready to pay in exchange for ten lac rupees worth of fake currency the trio was bringing.

Both Ummer Kamal Haji and Pradeepan had brought these notes from Dubai in a flight and transported them to Taliparamba, when they were arrested by the policemen. It may be recalled that Karnataka police personnel had recently arrested a person working in a hotel being run by Pradeepan, and recovered fake currency notes worth Rs 29,900 from his possession. Reportedly, the three said during police interrogation that this was for the first time they were involved with fake currency racket.
