Mumbai, Sep 26 (IANS): Indian equities markets started the week in the red with a benchmark index slipping 115 points soon after the opening bell.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE Monday opened at 16,209.19 points but soon slipped to 16,046.22 points -- down 115.84 points or 0.72 percent from its previous close at 16,162.06 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also trading lower, 0.55 percent down at 4,841 points.
Both benchmark indices had lost over 4.5 percent in last week's trade.
Broader markets were also weak. The BSE midcap index was down 0.26 percent while the BSE small cap index was ruling flat.
