Sensex Closes 70 Points Lower


Mumbai, Sep 28 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Wednesday closed 70 points lower on a largely dull trading day.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE opened at 16,663.26 points, and closed at 16,453.2 points (provisional) -- down 70.83 points or 0.43 percent from its previous close at 16,524.03 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended lower, 0.46 percent down at 4,984.35 points.

Broader markets were also flat. The BSE midcap index was down 0.98 percent, while the BSE small cap index closed 1.02 percent lower. The BSE 100 was down 0.54 percent.
