Beijing, Sep 30 (IANS): Thirty-five of China's State Council's 43 departments have failed a test conducted to determine the transparency of government agencies in the country.
The institution that did the worst was the ministry of supervision that is responsible for ensuring officials release information in accordance with the law, the China Daily reported.
According to a survey conducted by Peking University's Center for Public Participation Studies and Supports, governmental agencies are still reluctant to disclose information in a timely manner even though China's regulation on government information disclosure, the first in the country, was adopted in 2008.
After polling about 200 government administrations last year, professors and students from eight universities throughout the country concluded that provincial governments were more willing to disclose information than the central departments.
