Mangalore: MBA, MCA batches for the Year 2011 inaugurated at St Aloysius College

Mangalore, Oct 4: St Aloysius College introduced the first year MBA and MCA batches for the year 2011 here at AIMIT  on Monday October 3.

Former regional director of United Nations (UN) World Health Organization (WHO) South East Asia Dr Derek Lobo was the chief guest at the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion Dr Derek said that our education system is preoccupied with exams, results and ranks as if the main objective of education is preparing for exams.

He further said that aim of education is to prepare students for success and happiness by acquiring skills and knowledge to face the challenges of life.

Quoting Shashi Tharoor Dr Derek said that India is fast becoming a superpower, not just through trade and politics, but through "soft" power,that is its ability to share inherent culture with the world through food, music, technology, and Bollywood. And in the long run it's not the size of the army that matters as much as a country's ability to influence the world's hearts and minds.

Director of AIMIT Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director held the prayer session for students of MBA and MCA, which commenced with Bhajan.

He cited Swami Viveknanda to motivate students to work hard and to have faith in themselves, others and in God.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda Fr Lobo said that nothing is impossible, and that one can achieve greatness by perseverance and determination. Dr Lobo also stressed the importance of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness and asked the students to become highly respected leaders.
 
Principal of St Aloysius College Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ in his message to the students spoke of the four C’s of Jesuit Education, the are Competence, Conscientiousness, Compassion and Commitment. He also said that attitude is as much important as skills and knowledge.

The formal function was followed by a presentation by Fr Denzil on Jesuit history and Aloysian history and development of the institution during last few decades.

Chairman of MBA department Dr Oswald Mascarenhas SJ delivered a lecture on creative learning methodology.

Dean of MBA department Dr Rowena Wright welcomed the gathering and Prof Santhosh Rebello proposed the vote of thanks.
