Mangalore: Vishranthi Church, Bockapatna Celebrates Harvest Festival

Mangalore, Oct 5: Vishranthi Church, Bockapatna celebrated 'Divine Service of the Harvest Festival' on Wednesday October 5 at 8.30 am. Also, Harvest Festival Sports were organized by the Harvest Festival Sports Committee of the church later at the Vishranthi Church compound.

Prof M L Sureshnath, professor and head of the department of Botony of St Aloysius  College was the chief guest of the occasion.


The message of the day ws delivered by Samuel Jathanna, Presbyter of CSI Hebich Memorial Church, Gorigudda.

The harvest festival is observed with the offering of the first harvest to God, as a mark of gratitude. The community members brought to the church new corn, tender coconuts, sugarcane and vegetables and offered them to God. Devotees in large numbers with their families took home the blessed crop after the thanksgiving service

Chairman Icon Palanna, secretary Suresh Chandra, joint secretary Reshma P Soans, associate presbyter Vinayalal Bangera, convenor Prem Henry, treasurer Pradeep Kotian, chief referee Stephan Maben and chief referee Shaila Salins among others were present.

Several games like balancing the book, rabit race, sucking batani, Biblical quiz, 75 meter dash, magic carpet, throw ball, volley ball, tug of war, breaking the pot and shot put for various age groups were organized.

    Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God..!!!
