Puttur, Oct 7: A tanker overturned and fell into the roadside drain on the night of Thursday October 6 at Karvel near Uppinangady on national highway 75, seriously injuring its driver. He was rushed to the government hospital at Puttur.
The tanker was carrying jet fuel to Mangalore airport from Bangalore. After the tanker fell into the drain, its driver, Aleem Pasha, got stuck under the tanker. The locals dragged him out after putting in efforts for 30 minutes. They then took him to Puttur for treatment.
The stock of white kerosene used as jet fuel that was in the tanker, started leaking. As the fuel flowed into the drain, people rushed to the spot to collect it in containers. Two fire brigade vehicles were stationed at the spot to handle emergencies. The police told the people that the liquid is used as jet fuel, and not useful for household purposes. However, the people continued to rush to the drains to collect the fuel. The policemen had a hard time stopping them.
