Mangalore: Boy on Excursion Trip Drowns in River

Mangalore, Oct 15: A 16-year-old boy, who was a member of a group of students on an excursion trip, drowned in river near Virgin Beach at Battampady in Someshwar Uchchila near Ullal on Friday October 14. He has been identifed as Pravin.

The boy, who was a native of Solur near Bangalore, was an inmate of Aloysius Boys’ Home in Ombattukere in Someshwar. He was a ninth standard student of St Sebastian’s High School, Tokkottu.

About 30 boys from the Boys’ Home had visited the spot as part of their excursion. The supervisor of the Boys’ Home, who had accompanied the group, had ventured near the river to wash his hands. At that time, Pravin and one of his friends went to the river to play in water. Pravin slipped and fell into the river. Although he was immediately lifted out of water, his condition was found to be precarious. He was rushed to a hospital but his life could not be saved.

A report in this connection was filed in Ullal police station.
