Bangalore, Oct 15: A three-day international conference on ‘Power of Media in Globalizing World’ organised by the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS) was inaugurated at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall, here on Friday October 14.
The conference was inaugurated by Karnataka governor H R Bhardwaj, who spoke briefly about the power of media in political awareness. Dr K Rahman Khan, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, New Delhi presided. The chief guest of the occasion was Salman Khurshid, honorable minister of the government of India.
The programme started with the qiraath of Maulana Hidayatullah Rashidi. The welcome speech was given by Ubaidullah Shareef, convener of IOS.
Chairmain of IOS Dr Manzoor Alam addressed the gathering and spoke about media ethics and responsibility. Dr K Rahman Khan addressed the gathering and spoke about IOS activities. He then disscussed the topic ‘Power of Media in Globalizing World’. He said that in addition to the three pillars of democracy in the Indian constitution legislative judiciary executive, there is a fouth pillar namely the ‘Media’.
Vinay Shiri Gautam discussed modernization of media with reference to several social networking sites and its service to people connecting different countries.
Former vice-chancellor of Mangalore and Goa Universities Prof B Sheikh Ali was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion.
Abdul Azeem and Naseer Ahmed were present. Aga Sultan proposed the vote of thanks.
