Mangalore, Oct 18: Samanvaya in collaboration with Sahodaya Bethany Social Service Centre Bendore distributed 23 new sewing machines to needy women who successfully completed tailoring course recently conducted by them in Guddeangadi, Madame and Lingappayyakadu villages of Dakshina Kannada District.
The machines are distributed to the beneficiaries for payment on interest- free easy and monthly installments. Samanvaya director Dr Ronald Cutinha welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests on the dais.
In his brief address, he encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard and make the best use of the facility availed in order to improve their lifestyle. To draw inspiration, he cited the example of Wilma Rudolf who was affected by polio in her childhood making her disabled for life. But with her determination and constant efforts, she went to win three gold medals in the race at Rome Olympics in 1960. He wished the beneficiaries a prosperous future.
Chief Guest Sr Mabel D’Souza in her brief address mentioned that to achieve success, one should have a motto in life and determination which alone will help us fulfill our dreams. She also reiterated that it is essential that women stand on their own feet and gave few important tips on use and regular maintenance of sewing machines to get the best service. Before concluding, she wished the women all success.
Sr Prema Gonsalves expressed gratitude on behalf of Sahodaya and on her own behalf to Samanvaya for the timely help when it was least expected which enabled them to reach out to the deserving women. On behalf of the beneficiaries, she also assured payment of installments regularly.
Alice Lobo expressed her happiness that 23 women were getting new sewing machines and wished them a bright future. Later Dr Pius Pinto, managing trustee of Samanvaya distributed the sewing machines to the selected women and in his short address, he stressed on following the three ‘D’s in life i.e. duty, dedication and determination, which alone will bring success in life. He stated that there is great demand for embroidery work in Europe and he can look for a suitable opening for quality products, if desired.
Social workers, Shailaja and Latha compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks respectively.
As many as 41 people participated in the programme.
