Bangalore, Oct 19: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday allayed fears of domestic LPG consumers regarding sudden cancellation of supply of LPG cylinders to consumers having more than one connection.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating a building of the Karnataka Commercial Tax Service (Officers) Association here in the City, Gowda said some families residing in small houses were having more than one LPG connection. But there have been instances of more than one family staying in house together but cooking separately with separate LPG connection.

It would be improper on the par of the government to suspend supply of LPG cylinders to such families. “There is no need to become panic about disconnections of LPG cylinders,” he said.

He, however, made it clear that illegal domestic LPG connections would be suspended in a gradual manner after proper verification of documents, the connections would be suspended.

A few months ago, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has identified whopping 32.32 lakh illegal domestic LPG gas connections in the State and decided to issue an order for suspension of supplies of LPG cylinders to consumers.

Earlier, the Chief Minister instructed the officials of the Commercial Tax Department to plug leakages in the collection of taxes by trades and dealers in the State.

The government would not interfere in the functioning of the department officials but they should ensure better fiscal management and discipline.

With the increase in the volume of business and trade, there was a scope for increasing tax collections, he said pointing out that the department has been given a target at Rs. 26,700 crore in 2011-12.

The Chief Minister, who is also holding charge of Finance and several other departments, said the government has granted Rs. 5 crore for construction of the building.

Forest Minister C P Yogeshwar, MLA M Srinivas and Finance Department Principal Secretary L V Nagarajan and Association president K S Basavaraj were present.
