Udupi, Oct 20: Come monsoon, and commuters on the Padubidri-Karkala road will have to bump along on all vehicles, be it a cycle or a truck. Life is not easy for the commuters on this route.
Readers may recall that last year Daijiworld presented a detailed report on the status of this road and within a couple of days, seeing the pictorial report, authorities covered the holes on the road. But it was a temporary arrangement.
In 2011, when the monsoon started, the situation of roads once again turned pathetic and by the end of August-September, commuting on this route became the biggest nightmare for the people.
The route is crucial in accessing Nitte Educational Institutes where several students travel to and fro each day on institution buses or on their own. The normal time taken to reach Nitte from Padubidri is less than 30 minutes, but after the rainy season it takes nothing less than 50 minutes to reach the place.

Now, commuters on this route can heave a sigh of relief as the district-in-charge minister and higher education minister of the state has represented the plea of the people of this region and been successful in getting Rs 25 lac for the permanent repair of the road. The road is very bad on the stretch between Adve to Belman, again on the way from Nitte to Karkala.
The local people, who travel regularly on this road, conveyed heartfelt thanks to minister Dr Acharya for taking the initiative to speak to the chief minister in this matter.
