Muammar Gaddafi Dead

Tripoli, Oct 20 (IANS): Muammar Gaddafi, who ruled Libya for 42 years after coming to power in a coup, was killed Thursday by National Transitional Council fighters in his hometown Sirte.

Gaddafi, 69, begged for mercy as the fighters advanced menacingly.

"Don't shoot," cried Gaddafi who cowered in a hole in which he was hiding.

Television channels flashed images of a bloodied Gaddafi who was leaning against a fighter.

Gaddafi died of his wounds Thursday, a National Transitional Council (NTC) field commander told Xinhua.

The commander, Mohemmed Buras Ali Al-Maknee, had earlier said that a group of fighters from the western Libyan city of Misrata captured Gaddafi, who had been severely injured.

He had been injured in both his legs during the fierce battle at Sirte.

Al-Jazeera TV quoted Abdel Hakim Belhaj, NTC's military chief in Tripoli, as confirming that Gaddafi had been killed.

As soon as the news of his capture spread, people were overjoyed. Ecstatic Libyans honked horns and celebrated on the streets.

But his death has not yet been officially announced by the NTC high-ups.

The US too said that it was unable to confirm about Gaddafi's death.

US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told Xinhua that Washington "can not confirm at this time" the capture or death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The fall of Sirte and Gaddafi's death brought an end to a tumultuous period in Libya which witnessed an uprising that was inspired by the Egyptian revolt.

Gaddafi had come to power Sep 1, 1969. The "Free Officers Movement", a small group of military officers led by Gaddafi, staged a bloodless coup that toppled King Idris and established the Libyan Arab Republic.

Gaddafi, whose forces were driven out of capital Tripoli by the now ruling NTC Aug 23, had been leading a strong resistance in the past months.

On June 27, the International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued arrest warrants for Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi on charges of crimes against humanity.

On Sep 9, the international police agency Interpol issued Red Notice for the three.

USA is the root cause for destabilization the world. If they wish the peace certainly prevails. They don't believe in negotiations. Their motive is just to control the power over the world. America’s foreign policy toward Central America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America is a reflection of their own wickedness toward these peoples. America, like a giant serpent, has deceived the whole world. Their involvement in paramilitary actions, political interventions, propaganda campaigns or other kinds of deceptions, covert operations are all designed to benefit U.S.-based multinational corporations that expropriate the national resources of so-called target countries.

Where are humanitarians ,where were they, when Gaddafi begged for mercy. They should nt have shot him.Its against human n God's law.Instead they could have undergone hanged him. Those last moments of torturing him were really very disturbing.Libyans from now on will be slaves of west like iraq, afghanistan. They ll repent for what they did thats for sure.

Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni! He deserved it.
Why the West is interested only in the nations who have oil resources? Why the West is not showing the same interest in Syria and Yemen?
Is what the NATO doing to a sovereign nation like aerial bombing is right? Are any other nations that are hostile to the west are safe? What is the role of UNO? Why India is allowed into the UNO? Why important financial of the world like the World Bank is under the US control? Why Iraq and Afghan were having US puppet Govt? Why US is still backing the rouge state Pakistan? Why the West is not resolving the J&K dispute? ...? ...?
Sadly there are more questions than the answers.

Its very disturbing to see all this violence happening. All these people are killing each other. Not even dogs or other animals kill each other. Killing people who are captured or surrendered is nothing but barbarism. every where its happening . Its also disturbing to see nations interfere in the internal affairs of other countries publicly toppling a functioning government and bringing anarchy and no body cares. It has happened in afganisthan, iraq, Egypt, libiya, African countries. Who were encouraging and funding these programs. American European oil and diamond magnets and rich corporations. It is these greedy vultures Who control governments of usa and Europe . They killed 1000 times more people in Iraq than sadam hussain .He was captured, killed and showed in the media. Reason for invasion was WMD. Have they found anything? They got what they wanted “OIL”. Now what is the situation there. People are happy?. What was the situation when Afghanistan were under the rule of Dr.najeebullah. He was toppled by Taliban with the support of US and Pakistan. How brutualy he was killed like a rabbis infected dog .And who many lakhs were killed . And what is the situation there . Nothing but rubbles .These Developed counires are not all worried about draught, famine etc in African and other poor countries?. Because war is also a business for them. They will use near expiry dated ammunition in a way economically beneficial for them.Oh god ….. Please save us from this hell

Yes... Qaddafi era ended. Qaddafi was not a model for anyone. But the way he was handled is not acceptable. The people should have brought him to stage of justice...

What happened to his ELITE Amazonian Guards ? Hope these so called Transition Council may pardon them or treat them with some soft corner....

The Victory Gun shots, Dancing on the roads, etc is allergetic to look at.... They might won the battle.... Those activity will not teach humanity, pardoning etc to young minds.

At least we are proud of Indian culture...
    1. Don't wage war after sun set.
    2. Don't fight when enemy is armless (Give arm and fight)
    3. King Ashoka became upset after Kalinga war. He won but not rejoiced.... Best example for the world....

Though some say we should be aggressive against Pakistan.... We have demonstrated our utmost patience.... (With the hope that the enemies will learn from that).... But the sad thing is Pakistani mindset is not changing and it is same or more than the street rejoicing mindset of THE LIBYAN STREET HEROES!!!!

His last footage were disturbing, the way he was killed. This should be a 'taught for life' for all those eccentric inhuman dictators and zealots all over the world, who lead a span of luxury, often stamping their subjects to the ground. Their mad illusions of power and military expansion, blindfolds them to the dangers associated in the mere future. Hardly gaddafi could presume himself being butchered like a swine. The worlds best policemen, what i label them as "Three Musketeers" US, Great Britain and France have once again defied charlatanry despots, and have been successful in brnging back democracy. Gaddafi, Osama and Alwaki have suffered defeats and met dogs death.

Gaddafi was a dictator and like any dicator he ruled with iron fist and fear but he also made Libya prosperpous building infrastrucuture and health careand education to Libyans and LIbya was the only country in Sub sharan Africa which one can say was prosperous. He was a threat to Western powers to USA, and NATO countries who joined in to Topple or kill him under the pretext of UN security council resolutions. OIL, OIL, OIL was the greed for Western powers and they got it at the cost of Libyans in general and Gaddafi in particular. Western powers kill any one who is in their way. Demoacray is just a pretext.
