Abu Dhabi, Oct 22: Veteran community leader Michael D'Silva was elected as the new president of Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO), the Premier Konkani Organization of Abu Dhabi for the year 2011 - 2012 during its Annual Meeting held on Thursday 20 October 2011 .
Michael, a popular community leader and social worker was elected as the new president for the 3rd time. His contribution towards KCO’s popularity is immense. He has been a dedicated worker, his leadership qualities and experience will surely help boost KCO’s popularity and meet its challenging ventures and social commitments in the coming years. He has been member of KCO since several years and has proved his ability as a good leader and tactful organizer.

Frankline D'Cunha Gerald D'Mello
Lydia Lobo and Frankline D’Cunha were also elected as general secretary and treasurer respectively during the occasion. Both Lydia and Frankline are active members of KCO and have held similar posts within KCO in the past and will be ably supporting Michael to strengthen KCO.
The other office bearers will be selected by the new executive body and their names will be announced shortly.
KCO has been growing in popularity year after year and has become a household name both in the UAE as well as in India for their benevolent work in helping the needy and deserving students. They have initiated several scholarships for needy students through Samanvaya of Mangalore and have donated several Lakhs through their charitable work. They are involved in various social, cultural and religious activities in Abu Dhabi.
KCO recently distributed scholarships worth Rs 10,17,000 for nearly 155 deserving students. KCO has managed to garner funds through their entertainment events with the help of their benefactors and sponsors to meet their social and community commitments.
During the tenure of Gerald D’Mello, the outgoing president, KCO witnessed a vast change in the organization and he was able to raise the bar towards their social commitments. In his speech D’Mello thanked the members for their support and urged them to continue with the same enthusiasm they had shown during past two years when he was at the helm of KCO.
KCO is known for their excellent organizational capabilities and have veterans in this field and committed members who have the experience and caliber to show case any event or any cultural events. The unity and hard work of its members is worthy of praise.
