Kundapur, Oct 22: Tourists from Maharasthtra, taking umbrage at the policemen, who objected to travel of passengers by sitting atop their bus, tried to assault the policemen on Friday October 21. The incident occurred near Shastri Circle in the town.

After he saw that one of the two buses bearing Maharashtra registration numbers carrying tourists to various places had passengers sitting on its top, Kota police station house officer, Mahesh Prasad, signalled them to stop. The drivers ignored the signal, and moved ahead towards Kundapur. He then passed on information to Kundapur police, who stopped the vehicles at Shastri Circle.

When the policemen questioned the driver about overloading of the buses and riding by passengers atop the bus, the angry tourists entered into verbal altercation and threatened to assault the policemen. The policemen at last succeeded in taking both the buses to the local police station. The buses were released after registering cases.

Traffic on national highway 66 at Shastri Circle was affected for some time because of the above incident.
