Udupi, Oct 23: “Eye check-ups are not meant only for the elderly. Youngsters should also get their eyes checked every year. By doing so, diseases like glaucoma can be ascertained in the preliminary stage and cured completely,” said Dr Nithyanand of Prasad Netralaya, Udupi.
He spoke after inaugurating the free eye check-up camp jointly organized by Brahmavara Shree Mahalingeshwara Geleyara Balaga, Udupi Prasad Netralaya and Netra Jyothi Charitable Trust, Udupi district health and social welfare society, and blind eradication department at Unnathi Sahakara Mantap in Brahmavar.
Dr Nithyanand added that cataract can be avoided and eyesight brought back to normalcy by wearing lenses. Youth can safeguard their eyesight by limiting watching television and by maintaining distance when viewing the television.
He also urged people to donate their eyes. “There is a need for one lac eyes every year while only 20 to 30 thousand eyes are available,” he said.
B Suprasad Shetty, managing trustee, Neelavara Shree Mahishamardini Temple, asked people to donate parts of their bodies after death.
ZP former president Bhujanga Shetty presided. K Raghupathy, B Rajesh Shetty, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, S Narayan, and Shekar Devadiga were present.
