Beltangady: Heavy Rain, Powerful Winds Cause Huge Destruction to Crops, Properties

Oct 23: Due to the heavy rain accompanied by high winds in the taluk, there has been huge amount of crop and property damages at the Kalleri region here on Friday night and Saturday October 22.

At the Karaya region, a tree fell into the tiled house of Shivagiri Deekayya Bangera and damaged the house.  Even houses belonging to Pushpa and Devaki Narayana Achar were destroyed due to tree fall.

The Areca nut and rubber plantations belonging to Noojire Monta Gowda were destroyed due to forceful winds and Koosappa Gowda’s coconut trees too became the victim of heavy thunder. The areca trees belonging to Balakrishna Moolya, Dejappa Poojary also fell down due to the influence of high winds.

Hosamane Himakara Shetty’s house as well as pump house was destroyed. Mescom Kalleri division’s 12 electricity poles were disrupted and the loss occurred is estimated to be around 2 lac, informed the Mescom JE Vasanth.

Due to the tree falls on the roads the vehicular movements were also hindered.
