Kaup, Jun 11: Police have arrested the accused in a POCSO case who raped and impregnated a minor girl and had been hiding for two months in Ballari.

Chethan, also known as Tippesh, a native of Hatti Chiratagunda in Vijayanagara district, is the suspect who was arrested by the police. He allegedly befriended the minor girl who was living in a rented house in Shankarapura and had sexual relations with her, resulting in her pregnancy. After two months, the girl’s family admitted her to the hospital. Later, she was moved to the Surabhi Ujwala Centre in Shivamogga.

The case, which was initially registered at the Shiralakoppa police station, was transferred to Kaup. Based on the victim’s statement, a case was filed against Tippesh, alias Chethan, at the Kaup police station in March 2024. However, the accused had been absconding. Narayana and Rukmaya, personnel from the Kaup police station, went to Vijayanagara and then to Ballari, where they arrested the accused.

The court has remanded the accused to judicial custody until June 20.
