Bangalore: Somascan Congregation Organizes 'Miani Makkala Mela' Event

Bangalore, Oct 24: Miani Makkala Mela was organized on Sunday October 23 at Shantigiri, Sarjapur main road, Ambedkar nagar, here.

To commemorate the life and dedication of St Jerome Emiliani, founder of Somascan Congregation, Somascan fathers organize 'Miani Makkala Mela', a children’s carnival every year to enable deprived children from rural and urban areas to have an exposure and forum to learn and exhibit their talents through sports, awareness programmes and cultural activities.

This year more than 1900 children from 30 different institutions, children’s homes, schools, and NGOs took part in the event.

The programme was inaugurated by the Honourable Karnataka High court Justice B V Pinto who was the chief guest of the occasion. He spoke to children about dreaming and building better world.

MLA Aravind Limbavali (mahadevapura constituency) spoke on the contribution of Christian communities towards education, health and charities.

On the occasion, a talk on 'health and hygiene for healthy habits' by Dr Anoop from Address health organization, free eye check-up and referrals, games stalls for children's creativity, talenst show, releasing of T-shirt to mark 500th year of liberation of St Jerome, felicitation of the guest and a short cultural programme were held.

Ramesh Reddy, president of Kodathi panchayat, Sadhashiva Reddy, Sannappa among others were present. Cine comedy star Bullet Prakash also visited the event and interacted with  the children.
