Mangalore: Theft at Ullal - Gold Worth Rs 12 Lac Stolen

Mangalore, Oct 24: In a major theft reported from a house in KC road here on Monday October 24, gold jewellery worth Rs 12 lac has been reported missing.

The theft took place at 'Mubarak Manzil' belonging to Naushad, who was on a visit to his in-law's place at Todar in Moodbidri at the time. There was no one else at home.

The theft was discovered at around 3 am on Monday by Naughad's brother when he came to the house and found the rear door broken open.

The thieves got away with 62 sovereigns of gold, worth about 12 lacs, it is said.

It is speculated that the theft might have been committed by someone who was aware of being kept at home, and who was closely watching the house.

A case was registered at Ullal police station on Monday afternoon.

    We must be very careful with our belongings.Mangalore is becoming dangerous like any common city. Nowdays even pickpocketing is found everywhere in mangalore.The robbers maybe locals or from other states of India.

    With the share market going down and down, these days, more and more people resorting to invest their money in gold, the prices of which have been gone through the roof in the recent past. However, it is not safer to stack the gold in homes, and people will do well to store the same in bank lockers etc.

    Very simple solution, insure your house and all the valuables (simple procedures and requirements), reasonable insurance premium. Claim is straight-forward and will be settled fairly quickly.

    I tend to agree with N Dias as to why he had stacked so much of gold in his house that too not in a safe locker. This shows the casual behavior especially in the context of increasing house break ins and daylight burglaries. Though the weight is less, the value is substantial for a middle class family!!

    what do you mean where did he get all that gold. why smuggle? for your information 62 sovereigns of gold is not a very big size. wake up Mr. Dias....

    Well from where did he get all that gold. May be smuggled. So there is no case here. But if the gold came from legitimate sources of income then the police should pursue it.

    I have keenly noticed robberies taking place at regular intervals in this particular community indicating that most of the times it is an inside job done by some close relative, and I do not understand the reason for them to hoard so much amount of gold in the house when they know that DK has become an open ground for daylight robberies with low detection rate. Ideally only a small amount should be kept at home and majority should be shoved in bank lockers!!!

    There is every possibility that it could be known person.I think police will be able catch the thief/thieves in a short time.The person who left 'golden goose' inside the house unattended should be questioned also....Something fishy feeling henceforth police can only decode the thieves identity.
