Beltangady, Oct 26: Members of the Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, Vimukti, here celebrated Deepawali for the public on Monday October 24 at Ujire circle.

The celebration started by lighting the lamps along with the public. Thereafter, the chief guests were called on to the dais followed by a devotional prayer song was sung by the Vimukti staff as led by Fr Manoj, the director of Dayalbagh Ashram. On this occasion two poor families were supported with Diwali gifts.

Fr Joseph Mascarenhas, the parish priest of Ujire Church, addressing the gathering said, Diwali is the feast of light brings newness and happiness to each one of us. Therefore the feast should lead us from darkness to light.

Thereafter Dr Dayakar spoke in detail about the significance of the feast and called upon the public to do good for the others. He also said all the religions of the world speak about one thing to do good without desiring for any reward. Therefore we should be someone to bloom the lives of the others. He spoke well of Vimukti and the NGOs for their hard efforts to maintain peace and harmony in the society. He also called upon the public to give away the root of violence and to take the example of Vimukti in building the society by supporting the poor and the marginalized.

Fr Manoj wished a joyous Diwali to everyone and called each one to become light for the world.

Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, the director of Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, Vimukti said in his speech as the light shines forth and gets rid of the darkness so we too should become a light to everyone. So also a candle burns itself completely without holding to itself anything likewise we should become people of giving. Today we need to come out from our narrow thinking ways to become universal people. He also said that our religious practices should be from the heart then only it becomes meaningful. When there is no God in the heart our religious practices do not make sense it only creates religious fundamentalism and communal violence.

Even though there was heavy rain the public were flocking to see the various programmes as staged by the various youth clubs, children clubs and the brothers from Dayalbagh Ashram. Finally, a short fire cracker show was held to mark the occasion.

Sommya welcomed the guests. Chanchalakshi gave the vote of thanks and Jalaja anchored the programme.
